House Sparrow
There’s still a healthy population of these birds around Shoreham and small groups can often be seen on the beach itself. In late summer, many of the plants growing on the beach ‘go to seed’, and this provides sparrows with a food bonanza. These are sociable birds and always seem to be chatting to each other.
This is a species of high conservation concern, meaning that numbers have plummeted across the UK. We are lucky that they are still hanging on around Shoreham.
