The LNR’s famous flower, Starry Clover, is spreading West.
Starry Clover (Trifolium stellatum) was first found on the LNR in 1804 and is thought to have come by sea in ships ballast from the Mediterranean where it is quite common.
For many years Shoreham Beach was its only location then it was discovered to be growing in the SSSI at Browndown in Hampshsire.
Now it’s on the move more locally. In 2018, it was discovered at the Eastern end at of the Widewater car park. And this year, it’s spread to Lancing beach near the beach huts and opposite the Widewater in Lancing.
Our famous flower is spreading West.
