Bulldozers back on the beach
Its that time of year again, when the actions of the longshore drift mean that shingle has built up massively against the western Harbour Arm of the River Adur to the detriment of the beaches on the eastern side. As usual a massive bulldozer is pushing the shingle up into a huge pile to the south of the Fort. Atop this sits a digger filling lorries which then daily drive through the town to drop their loads onto the beaches close to the power station. Something of the order of 30,000 tons of shingle gets shifted over a three week period. This leaves the beach looking somewht flat, but it is not long before the wave action sculpts the beach and begins the accretion again
