Concordia Volunteers help to clear invasive species
On 25th of October.Twenty two Concordia volunteers, Jacky, Chris and Helena and Peter Lewis, worked reducing the Silver Ragwort at the Western end of the LNR to make more room for rarer, weaker and more diverse plants
The volunteers were escorted by staff and doing this voluntary service as part their Citizenship studies and were great fun and worked very hard. We also removed some of the schedule 9 Three Cornered Garlic already showing and a few Valerian plants on the south end of the area. Ranger Keith from the Working Parks department was there to instruct on using forks and for taking the green waste to the council dump.
To ensure all this work follows an effective effort, we are taking advice from the manager of the large Shingle Reserve at Rye who has confirmed that reducing the valerian is an essential part of looking after our plants on the LNR.
